In July 2011, the Green Bay, Wis., native was patrolling the roads of Afghanistan when an IED exploded directly underneath his vehicle. The explosion resulted in numerous injuries for Justin, including the loss of his legs, brain trauma, massive internal injuries, spinal cord being separated from his pelvis, multiple compound fractures in his right arm, a fractured jaw, and a compound fracture of the left femur. To date, he has experienced more than 20 surgeries to repair the damage that was done during this explosion.
Justin received care for his injuries in Texas. He received two prosthetics and his car was converted to be more handicap accessible so he can drive again.
